Joseph Tegbe, Director-General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, has arrived in China to advance bilateral relations. Appointed by President Bola Tinubu in September 2024, Tegbe is tasked with implementing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit in Beijing. His role includes fostering deeper collaboration on developmental programs between the two nations. Key MoUs include cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), peaceful nuclear energy applications, human resource development under the Global Development Initiative, and media collaboration between China Media Group and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
According to a statement from the Directorate’s media department, Tegbe will engage Chinese officials in strategic meetings to finalize agreements aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy. Priority sectors include agriculture, renewable energy, healthcare, mining, education, and technology. Tegbe’s efforts align with Nigeria’s goal of becoming a net exporter to China within five years while advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda. His visit follows Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent trip to Nigeria to reinforce bilateral relations and expedite FOCAC agreements. This partnership serves as a platform for transformative investments and sustainable development between the two nations.
