KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu says a high-level delegation from the province will engage Chinese investors during a global conference on Monday.

“On the sidelines of the conference we will engage with potential investors from the Municipality of Shanghai and Province of Guangzhou in order to further consolidate programmes aimed at implementing the memorandums of understanding signed with KZN.”

Mchunu, together with MEC for health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo and eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede, would on Monday commence engagements at the Global Conference on Health Promotion and the Mayors Forum in Shanghai, China.

Mchunu said he would “tell the story of our desire to be part of the global community”.

“We believe that we cannot prosper in isolation. We want to state unequivocally that we are determined to take advantage of opportunities offered by being part of Brics, an organisation established to safeguard the interests of the so-called developing nations.”

Mchunu said KZN’s commitment to Brics was inspired by the “dedication” of President Jacob Zuma and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“Both presidents have worked hard to ensure that the bond between the peoples of China and South Africa remain strong.”
