The Chinese Deputy Ambassador to Tanzania Mr Gou Haodong, has handed over 3m/- to Mbuyuni Primary School in Dar es Salaam for construction of an office building.
The fund donated by Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) will cater for the renovation of teachers’ office building floor so that they work in a conducive environment. The cheque was handed over to the school headteacher, Ms Dorothy Malechela, at a presentation ceremony in the school compound yesterday.
Ambassador Haodong said the Chinese Embassy attached more importance on education and would continue with its support to the education sector.
“Pupils are the future of the nation and we need to invest in them,” he said shortly after handing over the cheque. Ms Malechela thanked the Deputy Ambassador for the support and extended her call to other good partners to help complete some remaining parts of the building.
“We need to instal electricity system, put some metal windows and doors for safety and do some partitions using aluminum metals to have more offices for teachers. We are still struggling to raise more fund,” she said.
Board members of Mbuyuni Primary and Secondary Schools and Msasani Ward Education Officer, Ms Neema Kitumba also witnessed the handing over event.
“We are happy with your support to our school and our teachers who did not have an office building,” said Ms Kitumba and requested the deputy ambassador to send more Chinese teachers to the school to meet the demand.
“I will also like to join the Chinese class,” she said.
