China Eastern Airlines has introduced direct flights linking the bustling metropolis of Shanghai with the historic city of Cairo. The airline proudly announced the commencement of this groundbreaking service, making history as the first Chinese carrier to operate the Shanghai-Cairo air route. The inaugural flight, carrying 232 passengers, took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport and touched down at Cairo International Airport at 7:19 am local time on a recently momentous Monday.

A celebratory ceremony in Cairo, attended by Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang and Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Abbas Helmy, marked the launch of this exciting new air route. The Chinese ambassador, reflecting on the flourishing people-to-people exchanges between China and Egypt in recent times, expressed optimism about the continued growth of bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector. He urged collaborative efforts to enhance cooperation in areas such as aircraft maintenance and airport services. 

In response, the Egyptian minister highlighted the significance of the Shanghai-Cairo route, emphasizing its role in fostering continued people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. Headquartered in Shanghai, China Eastern Airlines stands as one of the three major state-owned airlines in China, contributing to the ever-expanding global connectivity.
