Sudan began distributing 1,250 tonnes of rice donated by China, starting with a ceremony in Port Sudan. The rice aims to support humanitarian efforts during ongoing conflict. Humanitarian aid commissioner Salwa Adam Benya thanked China for its continuous support.

Zhang Xianghua, charge d’affaires at the Chinese Embassy, expressed hope the donation would ease hardships and announced more aid, highlighting strong China-Sudan ties.

Since April 2023, conflict has left 28.9 million people in need, with the UN predicting severe food insecurity for over half the population by mid-2025.
